Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi lets slip Princess Beatrice's break from tradition in throwback snap

Princess Beatrice’s wedding ring represented a break with royal tradition, according to new pictures shared by her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi to mark their third wedding anniversary.

The pair tied the knot on July 17 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, however despite the more muted celebrations the couple looked delighted with their nuptials, with the arrival of their daughter Sienna in September 2021 adding to their happiness.

It may have been an unconventional wedding but it turns out Beatrice’s silver wedding band was also a break from the norm, as royal brides traditionally wear gold rings made from the same nugget of Welsh gold from the Clogau mine.

Royal women including the late Queen Elizabeth, Queen Camilla, Princess Kate, Meghan Markle and Princess Eugenie have chosen gold wedding rings.

In the post shared to Instagram Edoardo paid tribute to his wife and the life they have built together, writing: “Happy wedding anniversary to the most beautiful wife in the world.

“I am so grateful for every moment we have shared, every challenge we have overcome, and every dream we have pursued together. I love you more than words can say, and I can’t wait to celebrate many more anniversaries with you.”

The second picture in his post features a close up of Beatrice’s wedding ring, thin platinum band dotted with diamonds with a curved design designed to slot together perfectly with her engagement ring, which Edoardo designed especially.

British jeweller Shaun Leane created both of the beautiful rings, with the 3.5 carat engagement diamond thought to be worth up to £140,000, according to Max Stone at Seven Stone Jewellers.

In a statement, Shaun Leane said: “I am thrilled for the happy couple, it warms my heart to see two wonderful people unite in love as much as Edoardo and Beatrice do.

“I feel very honoured to have been a part of their journey and to have been involved in the very special moments of designing and creating the engagement ring and wedding ring. I wish them a lifetime of love and happiness together.”

Mr Stone explained how he had valued the engagement ring and some of its most impressive features, starting: “A six-claw round diamond takes centre stage, which looks to be around 3 carats.

“The round diamond shoulders two tapered baguettes, which gives the ring a vintage feel and Art Deco-inspired look. For added sparkle, the ring also features small pavé diamonds halfway around the band.

“From the images, it’s clear the diamonds are VVS grade, which means they have minuscule inclusions that are difficult even for trained eyes to see under 10x magnification. The diamonds look flawless.”

Beatrice and Edo first started dating in late 2018 and got engaged in September 2019, however their original plan to marry in May 2020 had to be postponed, with them eventually sealing the deal in July at the Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge, Windsor.
