Dutch copies of Endgame selling for eight times the retail price after being pulled

The Dutch version of Omid Scobie’s bombshell book Endgame is selling for eight times the retail price after it was pulled from shelves.

Scobie’s book appeared to reveal the two Royal Family members at the centre of a royal race row brought to light in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.

Translated copies of the book have appeared on the website Marktplaats, formerly part of eBay, with one receiving numerous bids reaching €185 (£158.68).

The book’s retail price is £17. The price of the book is expected to increase as more people attempt to get their hands on the controversial version of the volume that delves into life inside the Royal Family.

The two names, which the Daily Express is choosing not to publish, are said to appear in the Dutch version – resulting in it being pulled from shelves almost immediately.

The two names do not appear to have been included in any other edition of the book, which is called Eindstrijd in Dutch.

It is not yet known how the Dutch version came to include the two names, with Scobie insisting on This Morning it was not intentional and was translated incorrectly.

He insisted that he had not included the names in the manuscript of his book, saying that he “wrote and edited the English version of the book with one publisher”.

Asked by This Morning presenter Craig Doyle about the “bizarre” addition of the names in the Dutch version, he said: “It’s still being investigated right now… I’m as frustrated as everyone else and I make it as clear as possible in this book that I want to adhere to the laws surrounding this subject.”

On Wednesday night, the Dutch publisher, Xander Uitgevers, appeared to hit back at the claim that the result was an “error that occurred in the Dutch translation”.

In a new statement, it said: “The rectified edition of Eindstrijd by Omid Scobie will be in bookstores on Friday, Dec 8. Xander Uitgevers temporarily removed the book from sale due to an error that occurred in the Dutch edition.”

In March 2021, Meghan told Oprah Winfrey that there were “concerns” within the Firm about “how dark” Archie’s skin colour would be when he was born.

The Royal Family are yet to comment on the claims but are said to be “considering all options”.
