Dramatic pictures released by firefighters as they tackle huge blaze at boutique spa

Firefighters have released dramatic pictures showing the extent of a huge fire at a luxury health club and boutique spa.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service says crews were called to the Riverhills Health Club in Bramford near Ipswich in the early hours of Friday, June 23.

The images show thick smoke billowing into the night sky as the orange flames light up the area. The building appears to have been damaged as flames tear through the roof.

Crews had urged families living near to the spa to keep their doors and windows closed in the early hours of the morning. And roads near to the site had to be closed.

While the roads have now reopened, crews expect they will remain in the area further into the morning. They have not released the cause of the inferno.

A Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Overnight crews from across Suffolk have been fighting a large fire at a Spa complex on Bramford Road in Ipswich.

“At its height 17 appliances including an aerial ladder platform and water carrier were at the scene.

“Roads have reopened but numerous crews remain on scene.”

Earlier in the morning, the fire service tweeted: “We are currently attending a large fire at Riverhills Health Club in Bramford. We expect to be on the scene for some time and ask for nearby residents to keep windows and doors closed and to stay away from the area.”

Riverhills is described on its website as a “perfect retreat” located just off the A14 in Suffolk. Described as a “boutique spa” and “luxury health club” it offers guests a wide range of pampering treatments.
