Donald Trump set for Wednesday arrest 'at the earliest' as ex-POTUS slams 'extortion plot'

Donald Trump will be arrested on Wednesday “at the earliest” as the ex-POTUS’ Tuesday prediction is slightly premature, sources have suggested. The 45th President predicted he would be arrested today in a social media post uploaded over the weekend as Manhattan’s District Attorney continues its probe into alleged hush money paid on Trump’s behalf to porn star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election.

Sources told DailyMail.com that the 76-year-old will be arrested on Wednesday “at the earliest”.

Police forces across the United States have been making preparations in anticipation of potential unrest if Trump is arrested.

There is a growing feeling an arrest could be imminent because he was offered the chance to speak at the grand jury about the $130,000 payments but declined to do so.

The ex-POTUS released an update on Truth Social last night.

JUST IN: Donald Trump’s possible arrest might ‘help him politically’ but he is still ‘very anxious’

He said: “These four horrible, radical left Democrat investigations of your all-time favourite President, me, is just a continuation of the most disgusting witch-hunt in the history of our country.”

The Republican took aim at several probes which have been levied against him, ranging from the Russia report to his Ukraine-related impeachment and the Georgia ballot phone call to Congress’ investigation into January 6.

Trump, who dubbed the latest case the “Stormy Daniels ‘Horse Face’ extortion plot”, added: “They’re all sick and it’s fake news.

“Our enemies are desperate to stop us because they know that we are the only ones who can stop them and they know it very strongly.”

Rallying his supporters, the ex-POTUS continued: “They’re not coming after me, they’re coming after you.

“I’m just standing in their way and I always will stand in their way.”

A number of Trump supporters have gathered across various locations in the US in solidarity.

He has already urged backers to protest in an attempt to “take our nation back” if he is apprehended by law enforcement officials this week.

But, despite legal pressure, some commentators suggest Trump could politically benefit from the situation.

Twitter chief Elon Musk claimed: “If this happens, Trump will be re-elected in a landslide victory.”

Recent opinion polls indicate the 2024 US Presidential Election is currently neck-and-neck between Trump and his successor in the White House Joe Biden.

A survey conducted by Emerson College between March 13 and March 15 revealed that 44 percent of Americans would vote for Trump and another 44 percent would vote for Biden.

If emulated at the next general election, such a result could be enough for the Republican candidate to flip Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin back into the Grand Old Party’s column.
