Donald Trump’s mugshot sparked a meltdown online as fans and critics shared a host of hilarious memes and gifs depicting the former president and his embarrassing mugshot.
For hours ahead of its release, many were glued to their electronic devices waiting for the picture to drop.
It finally emerged in the late hours of Thursday night along with other bombshell details – including Mr Trump self-listing his own weight as 215 pounds.
Within moments of the picture dropping, hashtags such as #TrumpMugshot and #OrangeIsTheNewOrange began trending on X, the platform originally known as Twitter.
Mr Trump himself even tweeted the picture, using his account to post for the first time since January 8, 2021. Daily Express US has pulled together some of the best memes and posts.
Mr Trump is seen staring angrily at the camera after he was arrested on charges of attempting to overturn the 2020 US election results in Georgia.
He wears a blue suit and red tie in the shot.
While many took aim at Mr Trump, plenty of his fans are still standing firmly in his corner and railing against what they view as yet another “witch hunt” indictment.
Mr Trump made history as he became the first former president to have his mugshot taken following his arrest on Thursday.
It was the fourth time this year he had been indicted. But unlike the other three occasions, he actually turned up to be arrested.
Cops at Fulton County jail in Georgia did everything from taking his fingerprints to listing his bail conditions and fees.
Mr Trump was also given a prisoner identification number. He later described the ordeal as a “terrible experience”.
Speaking to Fox News Digital, he said he was “not comfortable” throughout.
He continued: “‘I came in, I was treated very nicely. But it is what it is. I took a mugshot. I had never heard the word mugshot. They didn’t teach me that at the Wharton School of Finance.’
“They insisted on a mugshot and I agreed to do that. This is the only time I’ve ever taken a mugshot.”
