Dog owner schools neighbours after they abandon pet at kennel to make room for puppy

A woman has taught her neighbour a lesson after they abandoned their dog for a new puppy.

Owning a dog is a big responsibility, as they need food, water, shelter and lots of attention.

Sadly, some people give up on their dogs when it gets too tough or something better comes along.

A woman took to Reddit to share how her neighbour left their dog at a local rescue centre to make room for a new puppy.

The poor dog, named Missy, spent a whole month in kennels before she realised what had happened.

Wanting to help Missy and teach her neighbours a lesson, she decided to adopt the dog, saying: “I can tell she’s been depressed and stressed [in the shelter].”

She shared a photo of Missy in the shelter and when she arrived at her new home, showing the difference a few hours can make in a dog’s life.

She added: “This is Missy in the shelter and when she realised she’s never going back.”

Missy, the dog, has only been with her new owner for a few days and her previous owners haven’t spotted her in the garden yet.

The woman said: “She seems relieved to be here. She hasn’t seen the neighbours yet.

“Missy always ran to the fence to give kisses when I went outside so we’ve always had a really good relationship.”

One social media user joked: “‘Hey, the grass is greener on this side!’ – Missy”.

Another user praised the woman saying: “You’re such a good person. My neighbour moved to Florida and just dropped their 18-year-old cat off at the vet like it wasn’t their problem anymore.

“So many of us would have taken her but we didn’t find out till she was put down.”

A third user thanked the woman: “Thank you for your big heart. You gave her a better life. She seems to understand this is where she is supposed to be.”
