Dog cruelly thrown from van covered in cigarette burns now searching for forever home

In Crewe, a terrified dog was thrown from a van and left to fend for herself. The poor pooch, now named Ruby by the officers who rescued her, was found covered in cigarette burns and had not long given birth.

It was 7pm on Tuesday, July 11 when the patrol team found Ruby on Queens Park Drive.

The distressed canine was without a lead, “shaking” and “struggling to walk”.

Concerned for her well-being, the officers quickly realised Ruby had recently given birth to a litter of puppies.

In an act of kindness, a member of the public named Neil offered Ruby a temporary home. He provided her with a bed, food, and a brand new collar while the police continued inquiries into where she’d come from.

The following day, the officers took Ruby to a vet for a thorough examination where it was discovered she did not have a microchip, and no one had reported her missing.

Now officers are trying to find a new home for Ruby after checking social media to see if anyone had posted on missing pet pages.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police asked residents to send in any video footage showing the moment when Ruby was abandoned.

They said: “We will not stand for animal cruelty and today after returning from the vets, as [a] team, we realised how much Ruby had impacted us all.

“She may not be able to tell her story, but we will ensure that other animals don’t suffer like Ruby has.

“The vet told us that her injuries on her head were consistent with burns possibly from a cigarette and other scars were also on her back. Ruby also had a poorly eye.

“After such a difficult time, we were so grateful that Neil had shown her so much kindness.”
