Professor Karol Sikora, who has been an oncologist for 50 years, took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to blast an NHS gender identity question.
The prominent public doctor shared a list of gender identity categories that patients could select from as part of a medical form.
He said that the list, which included categories such as ‘demiboy,’ ‘demigirl,’ ‘agender’ and ‘genderfluid,’ could confuse elderly patients.
Professor Sikora said the number of options was “frustrating” and “ridiculously confusing”. The drop-down menu featured ‘male’ and ‘female,’ alongside ‘questioning’ and ‘transgender’ options.

Professor Sikora tweeted: “An NHS form I’m filling in… I find it so frustrating that mainly elderly Brits are given this sort of stuff that only applies to a tiny minority.
“Male and female work just fine, with an option for ‘other’ if that’s applicable. Not this ridiculously confusing list.”
Users responded, with David Hearne tweeting: “At least put Male and Female at the top.
“It’s like scrolling down to find United Kingdom, on a website that is mostly by used by people in the UK.”
@JovKuz added “I’m definitely Questioning this form.”
It is not the first time Professor Sikora has slammed NHS attempts at gender inclusivity.
In May this year, following reports that Darlington Memorial Hospital included 18 genders on a patient form, he tweeted: “Listing 18 gender options on an NHS patient form is absolutely bonkers.
“Giving it to an elderly lady is just plain confusing.’Two-spirit’ is apparently listed – I’m certainly at a loss.
“Politely process unusual cases of course, but let’s apply some common sense here. Please.”
