Doctor 'stabbed to death by husband for staying at friend's house after night out'

A doctor has been found with numerous stab wounds to her arms, abdomen and throat as her husband is accused of murdering her for staying at a friend’s house after a night out.

Dr Gwendoline Amsrala, 28, from Las Vegas, US, was found when her husband Shiva Gummi, 33, called emergency services to the scene of the crime. Local reports have alleged that Gummi confessed to the crime.

He also reportedly admitted to having stab wounds after trying to kill himself, police said. Gummi told 911 dispatches: “I want to die, but I’m not dying.”

Gummi allegedly told the 911 operators that his wife was next to him when asked where she was. He then informed them: “She’s dead”.

Dr Tammy Flores, a fellow medical graduate who studied with the victim, told KNTV that she is glad Ms Amsrala was with loved ones during her final days.

She said: “Gwen deserved better than this. I for one would like to see justice be served to the person who stole her from us in this very tragic, violent and criminal way.

“I am comforted by the fact that in the final hours of her life she was surrounded by her friends and her colleagues celebrating finishing her first year of residency training which is a huge accomplishment.”

Dr. Omar Sanyurah, who also worked with Dr Amsrala, said her colleague always “had your back” in her tribute.

She said: “I think anyone who that has worked with her whenever you had a shift with her you knew it was going to be a great shift because she was a very very competent provider, and you knew she had your back when she as alongside you.”
