Disney lost over $300 million after two 'woke' kids movies were gigantic box office bombs

Pixar’s Lightyear, a spin-off of the multi-billion dollar Toy Story franchise, received similar criticism for being “woke” after including a lesbian kiss scene and casting Chris Evans over conservative Buzz voice actor Tim Allen.

At the time, one Rotten Tomatoes audience review read: “If I want to teach my children about sex and or sexual preferences at 7 and 8 I would do it in my home. I don’t need a Disney movie to help me out with it. STOP making everything sexual, it’s unbelievable.”

Another movie fan tweeted: “First Lightyear and now Strange World. Disney and Pixar releasing woke flops, one after the other. How many box office bombs before Disney learns?”

Meanwhile, Illumination’s The Super Mario Bros Movie has made $678 million so far this month and is on course for at least $1 billion. Some fans claim its success is down to it being “anti-woke” as it lacks a political agenda in its storyline. Disney’s upcoming 2023 releases are also facing accusations of being “woke” from their trailers.
