Dead goose found in flight control of crashed helicopter as three confirmed dead


A dead goose is at the center of an investigation into the crash of a medical helicopter which left three dead in the US.

The bird was found in part of the flight control system after the crash in western Oklahoma on January 20 at 11.23pm local time.

All on board were killed, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) indicated in a preliminary report.

While the cause is still being determined, the report noted a goose in the helicopter’s flight control system and others in the debris field.

A conclusion could take up to two years to complete, according to the NTSB.

The helicopter crashed on January 20 – a Saturday – in a pasture near Hydro, about 60 miles (97 kilometres) west of Oklahoma City.

It was returning to Weatherford – a small city with a population of around 12,000 – after taking a patient to an Oklahoma City hospital.

The pilot and both Air Evac Lifeteam crew members, a flight nurse and a paramedic, were killed.
