Darts star Rob Cross blames missing pants for his game 'not being right'

Rob Cross claims many of his possessions are still packed away in boxes after recently moving house, and jokingly suggested he will once again find consistency on the oche once he gets his underpants back. ‘Voltage’ missed a golden opportunity to reach the night’s Premier League Darts final in Newcastle on Thursday.

A thrilling 6-5 win over reigning world champion Luke Humphries set up a winnable semi-final against Nathan Aspinall on Tyneside. But Cross fumbled his chance to get through to a Premier League final for the first time this season, losing 6-4 to ‘The Asp’.

After the defeat, Cross insisted that his finest form shouldn’t be far away once he settles in, having upped sticks and moved from Hastings to Lincolnshire. “It’s just about getting myself right,” he said. “Hopefully I’ll be settled [soon].

“Hopefully I can get my undies out of a cardboard box, it’s been doing my nut in to be honest. I can’t even find my own shower gel.

“I could carry on and all! I could moan here all day. I really could. Hopefully my pants are in the right place, and once they come back I can sort of get the game right. Without no pants, no bottle unfortunately.”

Cross committed to the move in an effort to cut down his commute times, with many ProTour events held in Wigan. “I live in Hastings so Wigan is 288 miles for me,” the 33-year-old told The Daily Star.

Schedule changes this season see players kick the week off with two ProTour events before the top stars turn to the Premier League on Thursdays. On the adjustment, Cross explained: “I’ve always liked a routine. It’s not terrible when you haven’t really got one because I’ve learned to deal with that.

“I got so used to having Mondays off. Mondays were like my Sunday, it was a biblical day. Now, all of a sudden, I’m playing on a Monday… fantastic. It’s a little bit of change. I will get up with the programme because we all have to. If you want to win and put your best foot forward, there’s no point sitting there and saying, ‘I can’t do this and I can’t do that’. I can do it.”
