Dad weighing in at 27st let baby daughter starve to death while he gorged on fast food

A 27-stone dad who let his baby daughter starve to death while he gorged on fast food has been jailed for life.

Accused Christian Miguel Bishop-Torrence pleaded guilty to murder on Wednesday, where a court heard how one-year-old Georgia weighed just 8 lbs 8 oz (3.85kg) when she passed away, which was even less than she did at birth.

When the case first arose in June 2021, the police said that the baby was brought to United Regional Health Care System in Wichita Falls, Texas, and died on June 11.

The ensuing investigation led to capital murder charges several months later against both Bishop-Torrence and his wife Sage Angel Rose Wright, who were 24 and 22 respectively when they were arrested.

Bishop-Torrence, now 26, won’t be able to get out of prison – at the earliest – until he’s in his fifties.

Clinically obsess Bishop-Torrence – who tips the scales at 375 lbs (170kg or 26.78 stone) – had been on his way out for fast food with a friend when he saw his baby girl struggling to breathe.

He persuaded his pal to drive the critically ill child to the hospital where she died minutes later, according to local media.

The court heard how the twisted couple knew their baby had been losing weight for months but did nothing.

Horrified hospital medics called in Wichita Falls Police Department officers, who found the baby to be malnourished, the court was told.

Baby Georgia died just 20 minutes after arriving at the hospital on June 11, 2021, prosecutors said.

Dr Suzanne Dakil, a forensic examiner, conducted an autopsy and determined that the baby had been left “severely malnourished” and had sores all over her body, concluding that she had been starved to death.

A doctor told the court in the city of Wichita Falls, Texas, that she ought to have weighed between 22 and 24 lbs (9.9 and 10.8kg) at her age.

Jail records indicate that Wright, the baby’s mother, weighs 381 lbs (173kg).

Wichita County District Attorney John Gillespie told local media he was at the hospital the night the baby was brought in. He said: “It was something I’ll never forget. It was horrific.”

The Bishop-Torrence and Wright reportedly have two other children, who have not been named but who were also found to be malnourished. They are expected to make a full recovery due to their age, unlike Georgia.

After Wright’s arrest, she allegedly told investigators that she did not bond with baby Georgia like she did with her two other kids.
