A father and daughter duo have finally achieved their dream of flying a plane together.
Brian and Becky Morgan, from Essex, flew together for the first time when they flew a Jet2 aircraft from Stansted Airport to Tenerife last week.
The pair said the experience was a memory they would “cherish forever”.
Captain Brian and second officer Becky said it was a dream the pair had had for many years since Becky joined the training programme.
It is particularly special for Brian who had recently completed his Command upgrade to become a Captain.
Becky joined Jet2’s pilot apprentice scheme in 2021 after completing her flight training.
Throughout the apprenticeship, her experienced father has been supporting her and were fortunate to fly together after Becky gained her wings.
Since completing her apprenticeship, Becky has been on more than 170 flights to destinations across Europe including the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands.
Speaking EssexLive, Brian said the flight to Tenerife wasn’t just great for customers but for him and his daughter too.
Brian said: “It was fantastic to operate a flight with my daughter, Becky.
“We finally had the opportunity to fly together on a full flight from London Stansted to Tenerife which was not only a great day out for customers but also a momentous day for us.”
Brian added that his own flying career inspired Becky to forge her own career in the air. He said: “I’ve always encouraged Becky to follow her passion when it comes to her career.
“Naturally, when I began my flight training Becky also took an interest, so when she announced she wanted to pursue a career in aviation as a pilot, I was over the moon.”
Speaking about her inspiration for taking to the skies, Becky said she had fond memories of flying in light aircraft.
She said: “When my dad started his flight training, I also took an interest and have fond memories of flying in light aircraft together.
“However, I never saw this as something I could actually do as a job. I was meant to be going to university but wasn’t 100 percent certain about what degree to do and the career I wanted to pursue.”
Becky added her family was incredibly supportive when she made the decision to become a pilot and gain her wings.
She explained: “When discussing my options with my family, they were very supportive of me pursuing this career and gave me the confidence to believe that I could achieve anything I put my mind to.
“I was over the moon when I found out I had been successful in getting onto the scheme, as it was always my dream to follow in my dad’s footsteps.
“I also wanted to work for a company I was passionate about and shared the same ethos and values.”
The pair added that they hope to fly together again in the future.
