Cunard Cruise Line chaos as 140 passengers fall ill on Queen Victoria's three-week voyage

Almost 140 people have fallen ill while on a three-week leg of a 107-night cruise with Cunard Cruise Lines on the Queen Victoria ship.

The US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention says 139 people – 123 passengers and 16 crews members – have been experiencing gastrointestinal symptoms including diarrhea  and vomiting.

The CDC says the cruise line has increased its cleaning and disinfection procedures and isolated ill passengers and crew. The cause of the illness is not yet known.

The ship is on a 107-night voyage that started in Southampton on January 11. The recent part of its journey started set sail from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on January 22.

According to CNN, it will stop in Aruba, Guatemala, Cabo San Lucas, San Francisco and Hawaii, ending on February 12.

In a statement to CNN, Cunard Cruise Line said, “Cunard confirms that a small number of guests had reported symptoms of gastrointestinal illness on board Queen Victoria.  They immediately activated their enhanced health and safety protocols to ensure the wellbeing of all guests and crew on board. Measures have been effective.”
