Croydon stabbing: Teen charged with murder after schoolgirl died 'trying to protect pal'

A teenage boy has been charged with murder after a schoolgirl was stabbed to death in London.

15-year-old Elianne Andam died after she was stabbed in the neck on Wellesley Road in Croydon while “trying to protect her friend” after a fight had broken out on the Number 60 bus.

The teenager, who cannot be name for legal reasons, has now been charged with murder and possession of a knife.

He will appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court today.

It comes as Elianne’s devastated family held a vigil at the scene last night. Weeping, her mother Dorcas Andam was embraced by family members as Bishop of Croydon Rosemarie Mallett made a statement on their behalf.

“Our hearts are broken,” the statement says. “And we are overwhelmed by sorrow and grief our faith in the Lord is strengthening us.”
