Crabstick fans won’t eat fishy snacks again after seeing them made in factory

Crab sticks, now often called “seafood sticks” are a much-loved food across the UK but people are now reconsidering their love for them after footage emerged on Reddit from inside a Thailand crabstick factory.

The revelation has led to comparisons with a ‘fish hot dog’ and sparked disgust among viewers.

In the video posted on Reddit, frozen fish meat blocks are transformed into a grey paste.

The meat is crushed and mixed with salt and other flavourings before being blended with ice, vegetable oil, and sugars.

Workers then feed the mixture through a tube, creating a large whipped pile of grey paste, which is later moulded into a distinct shape and dyed red and white.

The factory in question claims to be the world’s largest, producing a staggering 40,000 tons of fish sticks annually, four times heavier than the Eiffel Tower, and exporting them to more than 37 countries, reported NottinghamshireLive.

The video has garnered attention on social media, with users expressing their reactions and dubbing crab sticks as the “hot dogs of the sea.”

Some who have seen the footage say the food is no longer appetising on their local supermarket’s shelves.

Commenting on the video, one user jibed: “Everything ok hun? You’ve hardly touched your grey”

Another said: “Bet that place smells wonderful”.

Meanwhile, a third added: “If the title hadn’t specified they were making crabsticks, or in fact any type of food, I would’ve gotten to 1:38 before I realised that they weren’t making some sort of industrial building material.
