‘Coupon Queen’ slashes £777 grocery shop to £24.66 – saving 97 percent on final bill

A self-proclaimed “coupon queen” has reduced one of her grocery bills from the equivalent of £777 to £24.66 while visiting her local supermarket. Missy from Auburndale, Florida has made regular appearances on the TLC show Extreme Couponing throughout the year and is the self-proclaimed “coupon queen”.

Thanks to her couponing, Missy has stockpiled $100,000 (£79,926) worth of groceries in her home.

She explained: “I’m on a mission. Until I get these coupons used, then I have got a task and I have got to get it done.

Included in the stockpile are 60 bottles of stain remover, 72 cake mixes, 100 boxes of cereal, 200 pounds of iced coffee and 10,000 bottles of flavoured water.

To maintain a stockpile as large as hers, the coupon queen needs to find up to 5,000 coupon fliers a week.

Due to acquiring so many discounts and concession fliers, Missy has two whole storage units dedicated to just coupons.

She has been able to collect all of these fliers thanks to friends and family giving them to her to include in the collection, as well as through churches and other organizations.

Appearing on an episode of Extreme Couponing, Missy invited cameras to follow a supermarket trip with her friend Tammy.

The pair used coupons to shop for items that will be donated to a charity which helps young people struggling with issues, such as teenage pregnancy.

Don’t miss…

While cutting out coupons, Missy said “I was a teen mom myself. I was very fortunate to have the support and the love and backing of my mom and dad.

“There are so many that don’t have that. Today’s trips going to be extra special for shopping for our girls.”

With their binders of coupons, both women arrive at the supermarket prepared to spend $900 (£719.50) worth of groceries.

However, thanks to the concessions and discounts they have hunted down, they hope to spend only $35 (£27.98).

Without any concessions applied, the retail value for the duo came to a staggering $972.25 (£777.27).

With coupons added to the cost, the final total for the supermarket shop was slashed to $30.85 (£24.66).

This means Missy managed to make a total saving of $941.40 (£752.6) which is 97 percent off her bill.
