A 24-year-old counsellor pin the US is accused of having sex with a 13-year-old boy.
Payton Shires, from Mount Sterling, Ohio, has been charged with unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and was arraigned in court on Saturday morning.
Investigators allegedly found a video of Shires having sex with the young boy on his mobile phone, according to court documents.
This followed the boy’s mother contacting police after she allegedly found suspicious messages on the phone from Shires, including one that said “delete the videos”, the documents say.
Shires was taken into custody without incident on Friday and police said further charges could be brought against her in the coming days.
She appeared in Franklin County Municipal Court where her bond was set at just over £410,000 ($500,000).
A hearing is scheduled for Shires on October 16.
State records show her counselling license was issued on June 12, 2023, and she used to work for the National Youth Advocate Program (NYAP).
In a statement, the NYAP said: “Protecting children is everyone’s responsibility.
“The National Youth Advocate Program (NYAP) is saddened by the situation involving one of our former employees and a young person served by our organization.
“NYAP has reported the situation to Franklin County Children Services (FCCS) and is collaborating with them and the Columbus Police Department on this case.”
