Coronation POLL: Will you swear allegiance to King Charles III? Vote here

The United Kingdom will be the focus of the world on May 6, as King Charles III is crowned during the first Coronation of a British monarch since 1953.

As part of the historic ceremony, the public will be invited to swear allegiance to the new King.

The phrase people will be called on to say is: “I swear that I will pay true allegiance to Your Majesty, and to your heirs and successors according to law – so help me God.”

Although the ceremony is steeped in ancient tradition, calling on the public to play an active part in the Coronation has never happened before.

The Homage of the People, as the call will be known, is replacing the Homage of the Peers, which saw hereditary peers kneel before the new monarch and make a pledge to them.

The Archbishop of Canterbury will ask those watching or listening to the Coronation to engage in a “great cry around the nation and around the world of support for the King”.

The question is, will you swear allegiance to the King? Vote in the Express.co.uk poll now and have your say.
