Coleen Rooney 'delighted' Wayne's boxing plans on hold for crucial reason

Coleen Rooney has KO’d Wayne’s plans to become a boxer after his stalled career in football management because she doesn’t want to see her husband get battered in the ring. The retired England and Manchester United striker was recently approached about taking part in a fight by social media fight franchise Misfits.

But the 38-year-old dad-of-four last week revealed he was unlikely to be donning the gloves anytime soon, and that decision has certainly pleased mum-of-four Coleen, 37.

A source told the Sunday Express: “Coleen’s delighted he won’t be fighting. She never wanted him to do it. Wayne’s got all the gear at home and she doesn’t mind him training.

“She’s even used the punch bag herself a few times to work off some stress and tension.

“But the idea of seeing Wayne actually getting in the ring and potentially being smashed up and left hurt just had her really worried.

“She’d never tell Wayne what to do – but they discussed it and he decided it isn’t the right time.

“Wayne’s not ruling it out for good but at the moment he wants to work in football and focus on that.”

“He could have earned an absolute fortune by agreeing to fight but it would have meant taking months off to train and get himself into fighting shape.

“And that would prevent him from working and getting a job back in football management, which is Wayne’s number one priority.

Wayne, dad to Kai, 13, Klay, 10, Kit, seven and Cass, who has just turned six this month, was quizzed about his fight ambitions last week.

He was questioned when he appeared on the latest episode of sports show The Overlap which saw him joined by Roy Keane, Gary Neville, Jill Scott and Jamie Carragher.

Former team-mate Neville asked: “Are you going to be a boxer? Are you going to fight?”

A smiling Rooney answered: “You never know. They’ve been in touch and asked a question.”

Wayne – who married Coleen in 2008 – also told the podcast how he almost took a law degree.

He admitted he was even suggesting questions his wife’s lawyers should ask during her Wagatha Christie court battle with Rebekah Vardy.

The former England captain has time on his hands and is out of work after being sacked by Birmingham last month.

He lasted just 15 games after winning just twice at St Andrew’s.

He’s been linked to a return to management in Saudi Arabia as he plots a path back to the dugout.

But our source said Coleen wasn’t at all keen on a move abroad.

“Coleen, Wayne and the boys are settled in England,” the source added.

“Wayne has managed in the US before and lived out there on his own which was really hard.

“They managed but Coleen loves having Wayne home.. and Wayne is really keen to prove he’s got what it takes to be a top manager in England and his ambition remains to coach in the Premier League.”
