Chilling note left on scene of horrific quadruple murder exposes suspected killer's secret

A chilling note was found at the crime scene of the horrific shooting spree that killed four people, including the parents of the suspected shooter.

Joseph Eaton allegedly confessed to killing his parents, Cynthia, 62, and David Eaton, 66, as well as their friends Robert Eger, 72 and Patricia Eger, 62, before shooting fleeing at shooting at motorists on his path.

Maine State Police were called to a house in Bowdoin on April 18. They found the victims and a dog dead from gunshot wounds.

Eaton had been released from the Maine Correctional Center in Windham only four days before the shooting.

He has now been charged with four counts of murder. He is not currently facing any charges for the highway shootings that took place after the slayings at his parents’ home.

Court documents have now laid bare the horrifying scenes left behind at the home where bodies were found.

The document says that Ms Eger’s sister visited the home at 9am, discovering blood near the door. After calling out and receiving no answer, the woman allegedly spotted broken glass and multiple bullet holes in the wall.

Ms Eger’s sister then noticed the body of a male laying on the ground covered with a towel and left the property to call 911.

Detectives arrived and found a note stating that someone had been molested and that “there was nothing done about it”.

It also said that someone had been freed of pain and that the writer of the note wanted a “new life.”

The affidavit added that Eaton had posted a video on Monday in which he claimed to have been molested as a child.

In the footage, he could be heard saying: “Just need to try to forgive me for the things I did. I have been dealing with trauma for a long time on things I don’t talk to people about.

“Being molested and stuff. It destroys somebody. I know I’m good for my kids. I just wish people would forgive me, you know, some people. I don’t get it.”

After officials were alerted about the bodies inside the Bowdoin home, authorities responded to the highway shooting where Sean Halsey, 51, and his two children, Justin, 29, and Paige, 25, were shot.

All three survived, but Paige was in critical condition at one stage. The suspect was driving a car rented by their parents.

Police found small and large calibre casings in the passenger side of the vehicle. Eaton was detained at 11am in the woods close to the highway.

After a court hearing this week, Eaton was ordered to be held without bail.

Superior Court Justice Daniel Billings said that the suspect must undergo a psychiatric evaluation to decide if he can be a part of his defence. Eaton is set to appear in court again on June 28.

If Eaton is convicted of murder, he could be sentenced to between 25 years and life in prison.
