Cheltenham Festival LIVE: Rachael Blackmore hailed by The Queen as race abandoned for good

Rachael Blackmore was hailed by The Queen after claiming an unexpected victory in the Champions Chase at Cheltenham Festival. Queen Camilla described Blackmore’s win with Captain Guinness as ‘absolutely fantastic’ after presenting the jockey with a trophy and spending the day with her family.

Blackmore’s win was the standout result on Wednesday but day three promises to throw up plenty of drama as well after a bad day for the bookies. The Stayers’ Hurdle at 3.30pm is the pick of the bunch with favourite Teahupoo, Sir Gerhard, Crambo and Noble Yeats all expected to be widely backed.

However, Nicky Henderson-trained Champ won’t be running in that race after several of his horses were pulled out due to a mystery illness. Punters, meanwhile, will also be looking to call some winners in the Turners Novices’ Chase, the Pertemps Network Final, the Ryanair Chase, the Trustatrader Plate, the Ryanair Mares Novices’ Hurdle and the Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup Handicap Steeple Chase on what promises to be another action-packed day today.

One race punters won’t be seeing this year, however, is the Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase which was cancelled on Wednesday. It has now been confirmed the race won’t be rescheduled for Friday’s Gold Cup card due to expected showers over the last two days of the Festival.
