Chelsea vs Wolves rocked by security alert with supporters blocked from entering stadium

Chelsea’s Sunday fixture with Wolves could be delayed after reports of a fire in a hotel near Stamford Bridge. The match was due to take place at 2.00pm but faces the possibility of being pushed back to allow fans safely to travel to the stadium.

A security alert has caused fans to stop gaining entry into Stamford Bridge, though there has been no official confirmation that the kick-off has been delayed.

Chelsea had hoped to bounce back from their midweek drubbing by Liverpool against Wolves, who had also suffered disappointment after a stoppage-time winner from Kobbie Mainoo caused Gary O’Neil’s outfit to lost 4-3 on Thursday.

But there is a chance that the two teams could be forced to wait even longer to put more points on the table, after a security alert near the Shed End of Stamford Bridge has seen fans unable to enter the stadium on time.

Sky Sports reporter Ron Walker explained: “We’re still waiting for more details on what caused that security alert around Stamford Bridge around half an hour ago now, but it’s been reported there was a fire in one of the kitchens in the Millennium Hotel.

“Whatever happened, credit to fans and stewards, who dealt with the situation very well. Walking into the ground about 12.15, though fans were being held back from entering the stadium, everything was very calm. It looks like it’s just a minor blip ahead of a big afternoon where both these sides are desperate to bounce back from midweek disappointment.”
