Chelsea dodge bullet in Fulham win as baffling scenes unfold behind Mauricio Pochettino

Palmer bails out team-mates

Chelsea’s attack lacking potency does not just define the Pochettino era, but also the struggles endured by Graham Potter and Frank Lampard last season. Armando Broja, Raheem Sterling, Cole Palmer and Conor Gallagher were the Blues’ most advanced players against Fulham, but their end product was found sorely lacking.

At least until Palmer stepped up to the plate towards the end of the first half. His excellent reverse ball saw Sterling brought down in the box, and Palmer himself stepped up to take the spot-kick, sending Bernd Leno the wrong way to extend his perfect record from 12 yards since signing for the Blues.
