Charlotte Sena found: Suspect in custody after fingerprints 'found on ransom note'

A nine-year-old girl has been found safe inside the cupboard of a camper RV – 48 hours after her mysterious disappearance sparked a huge search operation.

Charlotte Sena was found by New York State Police at around 7pm on Monday after suspect Craig Nelson Ross Jr. allegedly dropped a ransom note at her parents’ home.

Speaking this morning, New York Governor Kathy Hochul said: “What happened was extraordinary. The case started to break at 4.20am…[at] the family’s home, that was being guarded by state police, when the parents were still starting another day at the campsite where they’d last seen their daughter.

“4.20am, a car pulls upto a mailbox, something is left, state police immediately go up to the mailbox and identify a ransom note that has been left behind.”

Governor Hochul described how police linked a fingerprint on the note to their suspect.
