Never-before-seen footage has emerged showing newlyweds Aric and Samantha Hutchinson joyfully riding in a golf cart just minutes before the horrendous crash that claimed her life. Surveillance from the road of the crash shows the golf cart in which the bride and groom and two other family members were riding in.
The cart passes by a house on Folly Island’s East Ashley Avenue as they make their way back from the couple’s wedding reception at around 10:11pm on April 28.
Just hours earlier the newlyweds had posed for pictures with friends and family three miles away on the picturesque South Carolina sands before dancing at the Folly County Park pavilion reception.
Friends had been told by Samantha that she wished the day “would never end”.
The golf cart, with ‘just married’ wedding decorations trailing behind it, can be seen slowly making its way across the frame of CCTV footage acquired by MailOnline in 23 seconds.
Comparatively two minutes later a car being driven by Jamie Lee Komoroski, 25, thunders past the camera at around four times the cart’s pace, and is out of the frame in 6 seconds.
Just seven hundred yards further down the road is where the fatal collision with the golf cart took place.
Komoroski, drunk at the wheel with over three times the legal alcohol limit in her system according to police, took moments to cover the distance to the cart as she reportedly drove at up to 65mph in the 25mph zone.
Benjamin Garrett, Samantha’s brother, was driving the golf cart with Brogan, his young son, in the passenger seat beside him, while the newlyweds sat behind.
Within five minutes of the golf cart coming into frame, the tragic incident had taken place, and a plethora of police cars and ambulances comes flashing past minutes after Komoroski’s speeding Toyota Camry exits the shot.
Samantha, 28, died at the scene, while Aric, Benjamin and Brogan all suffered severe injuries.
The groom left hospital after ten days having suffered a brain bleed and undergoing multiple reconstructive surgeries to repair the fractured bones in his legs, face and broken vertebrae.
Hutchinson spoke at a beach memorial for his bride last week from his wheelchair, saying: “She would’ve loved it. This is Sam, she’s a beach girl, through and through.
“We do walk here almost every morning, and this is her send off for sure. She’s up there smiling for sure.”
Hutchinson has filed a civil lawsuit against Komoroski and the bars that served her that evening.
She has been charged on three counts of Felony DUI with death and or great bodily injury.
Komoroski is currently being held without bond in Sheriff Al Canon Detention Center in North Charleston.
Last week her attorneys filed a motion that she poses no flight risk or danger to the community in attempts to get her released on bail.
The motion said: “The personal characteristics of Jamie Lee Komoroski, coupled with her strong family support and ties to the community, heavily counsel in favor of her release from custody.”
Komoroski has also struggled for years with alcohol dependence, depression and anxiety according to the statement.
“Jamie, with the support of her family, is committed and prepared to engage in intense, inpatient substance abuse and mental health rehabilitation immediately upon her release.”
Komoroski’s new motion for bond with be heard on June 16, when she makes her next court appearance.
