A delivery van driver who was critically injured after he was hit and dragged under his own van has died, police have said. Mark Lang, 54, was in the middle of delivering parcels in Laytonia Avenue, Cardiff, when he was knocked down.
He was carried under the vehicle before it came to a stop just over half a mile away near Cathays High School on March 28.
Mr Lang was taken to University Hospital of Wales where he was treated for a brain injury and “multiple lacerations across the body”.
Police have confirmed he has since died.
Mr Lang’s partner, who has not been named, said in tribute: “It’s difficult to put into words quite how any of us are feeling.
Mr Lang’s partner added: “We’ve been inundated with nice words and if we noticed it we spoke to him about it.
“Assume he was aware of your kind words and very happy to hear them.
“Mark was a good man, with a lot of love to give. He passed in the early hours of the morning surrounded by family. Peacefully. Comfortably. Loved. He will be sorely missed. X.”
A South Wales Police spokesperson said: “The 54-year-old man who was injured following an incident on North Road, Cardiff on Tuesday, March 28, has died at the University Hospital of Wales.
“He has been named as Mark Lang from the Cyncoed area of the city.”
Christopher Elgifari, 31, appeared in court charged with attempted murder on March 31.
Prosecutor Nicholas Evans told Newport Magistrates’ Court the police were called to Cathays at about 12.50pm on March 28.
Mr Evans alleged that Mr Elgifari entered the vehicle and got behind the wheel after Mr Lang got out of the van to make a delivery.
The prosecutor said Mr Lang tried to stop the vehicle, but he was hit at speed and became trapped underneath.
Tom Trobe, representing Mr Elgifari, told the court on March 31 that a not guilty plea would be entered when the case goes for a plea hearing at a later date.
Justice Nigel Buckland remanded Mr Elgifari in custody ahead of the next hearing at Cardiff Crown Court.
Mr Elgifari, of Cwrt Yr Esgid, Aberdare, spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth, Wales Online reports.
