Captain Sir Tom Moore’s daughter sent an angry email to the BBC in response to an allegation she was paid thousands via her family company for appearances linked to the NHS hero’s charity.
The corporation reported on Tuesday (August 15) that Hannah Ingram-Moore helped to judge the Virgin Media O2 Captain Tom Foundation Connector Awards ceremony which brought attention to the charity.
Virgin Media O2’s ceremony included the name of the charity and its logo on awards plaques.
But according to the BBC, Ms Ingram-Moore’s fee was paid to her family company, Maytrix Group, and not the Foundation. She has yet to respond to the claims.
A Virgin Media spokesperson told the BBC: “When payment was made, we were not aware of any concerns about Maytrix or the Captain Tom Foundation that have since come to light after our campaign and relationship with Captain Tom finished.”
At the time of the awards ceremony, Ms Ingram-Moore was interim chief executive of the Foundation on a £85,000 salary, according to the BBC.
Ms Ingram-Moore is no longer at the helm of the charity although her husband Colin is a trustee.
Captain Sir Tom Moore gained global attention during the first coronavirus lockdown by walking 100 laps of his garden to raise money for the NHS ahead of his 100th birthday.
He was knighted by the late Queen Elizabeth II for his efforts after having raised about £38million for NHS Charities Together.
Captain Tom died in February 2021 with the late Queen leading tributes to the World War Two veteran, “recognising the inspiration he provided for the whole nation and others across the world”.
Members of Captain Tom’s family then set up the charity, but questions have since been raised about its management costs, where funds were going and Ms Ingram-Moore’s salary.
Earlier this year, the Ingram-Moores appealed after their local council’s planning chiefs ordered them to demolish a spa building at their home which had been refused retrospective planning permission.
Ms Ingram-Moore has been approached for comment.
