A disgruntled customer visiting a café in Lancashire has taken to Google Reviews to complain about the price and quantity of the food received in the eatery, only for the owner to hit back at the scathing comments.
The Shambles in Lytham describes itself as “meals served in a relaxed environment using the freshest ingredients”.
However, on Google Reviews, visitor Sara Clare called the establishment a “nice little place” and gave the eatery one star, but also rated The Shambles three stars for the food, three for service and three for the atmosphere.
Ms Clare described receiving “terrible customer service” and stated the food was “overpriced”, according to Lancs Live.
She explained that her party had ordered two soups and asked for an extra bread roll with each which they expected to pay for. But they did not expect to be charged “£9 for 4 TINY thin slithers of rock hard bread”.
Dissatisfied with the quality and price of the food she received, the visitor says she spoke with the owner, who she describes as “just rude” over expectations of getting “food for free”.
The review then ends with: “He told me he doesn’t care and for me to put a bad review on here, so here it is.”
The owner of The Shambles replied with their own recollection of events. They explained that the customer had been attended to “twice”, and explained the menu clearly showed that the eatery charged extra for bread.
They further went on to state if Ms Clare was not happy with the prices, then she should not have come into the restaurant at all.
From the review, it also appears there was a phone call exchange between the owner and the visitor.
The reply from the owner stated: “In regards to this morning’s phone call – you demanded a refund. You didn’t ask for it, you demanded it. You also threatened us that if you don’t get the refund then you will give us a bad review. Hope you have a wonderful day and you feel better now!”
The menu at The Shambles offers a variety of dishes including a chicken and goats cheese salad to Thai fishcakes and homemade pies.
On Google Reviews, the average rating is 4.5 stars out of five, with a total of 189 reviews provided on the platform.
