Cadbury fans left devastated after chocolate maker axes popular bar

Health conscious chocolate lovers are sharing their devastation after Cadbury has axed a lower calorie Dairy Milk bar.

The Cadbury Dairy Milk 30% Less Sugar bar will soon be no longer available at supermarkets because Cadbury says demand for it has fallen.

Now gutted calorie counters have taken to social media to share their dismay at it being scrapped just four years after its launch, reports The Mirror.

One posted online: “I’m devastated they’ve pulled this option from shelves, it just seems like another decision to cut costs at the expense of quality or diverse choices.

“That’s my evening routine ruined!”

Another shared: “Everything is ruined.” A third chocolate fan posted: “They are lovely.”

The lower calorie option was release in 2019.

The 85g sharing bar is easy to spot by its two-tone packaging which features a light blue tone and the trademark shade of purple that the brand is known for.

Just Food reports: “The confectionery giant launched the bars in 2019 as part of efforts to cut sugar in the products it sold in the UK and Ireland.

“At the time, the US giant said the new bar represented ‘the most significant innovation in the brand’s history’ and supported the company’s ‘ongoing commitment to play its role in tackling obesity, including childhood obesity, in the UK’.”

The Oreo owner has now pointed to its other healthier snacks under the Cadbury Dairy Milk brand, including the Fruitier and Nuttier bars.

A spokesperson told Express.co.uk: “Cadbury has been making much-loved treats for almost 200 years.

“This heritage means we have a deep understanding of our consumers and allows us to continuously innovate, developing new products that meet their evolving tastes and preferences.

“In 2019, we launched Cadbury Dairy Milk 30% Less Sugar following significant investment over three years.

“Despite efforts, demand for this product has dropped and we have sadly taken the decision to delist it.”
