Brits have been leaving reviews after first ever holiday in Benidorm and they're hilarious

Britons visiting Benidorm for the first time have left hilarious reviews summing up their experiences in the Spanish city.

UK tourists have long adopted the city as a home away from home, with a sizeable British community now occupying the area permanently, and millions shuffling in and out of the numerous local bars and eateries every year.

Benidorm has now earned a reputation as a preferred British haunt and is top-rated by hundreds of visitors, but it is far from perfect according to some TripAdvisor reviews.

While some people have positively referred to the area as “Blackpool with sunshine”, others have told of grim experiences travelling through the city.

Many have injected their less-than-stellar reviews with withering but hilarious anecdotes about local life.

Many reviewers were less than pleased with the local nightlife, complaining on review website TripAdvisor.

One user, Richard P from Chelmsford, said his holiday was punctuated by, “European girls whipping you with belts”.

He wrote: “The area where you go for some serious drinking just consisted of bars with East European girls whipping you with belts.

“Although that was quite funny to watch initially but after you’ve seen it once, it’s just dull.”

Longtime TripAdvisor reviewer Theholidayadvisor had a similar review of the Benidorm nightlife, stating the city is full of older and younger Britons looking for a drink.

They said: “Benidorm is what is sadly indicative of the British bar culture. In the summer it’s the under-50s getting hammered drunk until 4am, and in the winter it’s the over-60s doing the same thing.

“Benidorm is an absolute disaster unless you leave your brains at home and don’t actually want to meet any Spanish people.”

Dekastos, a visitor from Worcester, complained about Benidorm residents’ determination to show “how efficient their dog’s digestive system could convert wholesome doggy food into disgusting pavement deposits”.

They said: “However, there is a severe detriment to the enjoyment of any facility in Benidorm, that being the filthy pavements.

“The Spanish love for dogs is probably only equalled by our own in the UK.

“Practically all dog walkers, with the exception of a few, were determined to demonstrate to the world at large just how efficient their dog’s digestive system could convert wholesome doggy food into disgusting pavement deposits, generally down the centre of the pavements.”

Storm2626 said humans appear to have a similar problem when visiting the city, adding: “Benidorm is the highest ranking town in Europe for the squits!”
