British mum dies after feeling 'dizzy' and collapsing at airport on way home from holiday

Tributes have poured in for an “incredible” mum who died suddenly while on her way home from a trip to Africa.

Nicola Davies, 40, was preparing to come home after visiting her boyfriend when she started feeling ill at the airport.

She was dizzy and had hot sweats before she collapsed and was rushed to the hospital where she died.

Her heartbroken family has launched a GoFundMe to organise a funeral for the mum of two, hoping to raise £7,000.

Daughter Rebecca, 21, told EdinburghLive: “I can’t even begin to put into words how incredible she was, she was just the best mum in the whole world. Her death came as a complete shock to us.

“She was in the airport alone and was away to travel back home to us. She got to the airport and experienced heat and sweats and then started to feel dizzy.

“Then she collapsed and died. I was looking after my little brother whilst she was away and my gran got a phone call from the hospital in Africa and she is still there now and is yet to come back to us.

“My brother is too young to process everything that is going on. I don’t think he understands what has actually happened. It’s all so raw for us.

“My mum was my best friend and funerals are just so expensive. Since it’s just myself, my little brother and my grandma who can fund the funeral, we are hoping to raise £7000.

“It would mean the absolute world really. She deserves the best send-off possible. She could make anyone laugh and always put everyone first before her.”

The fundraiser has so far raised £300.

The website description reads: “Hi, my beautiful mother Nicola unfortunately passed away on the 15th of October 2023. Nicola passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly whilst at the airport heading home from her holiday.

“Anyone who knows her knows she is the most kindest and selfless person ever to exist. She was a much-loved family member and friend to many of us and we want to give her the send-off she deserves.

“I am making this page to help cover the costs of her funeral. We would honestly appreciate any help given in this sad time. Thank you.”
