British holidaymaker, 19, 'raped on a beach' in popular Greek tourist destination

A British teenager has reportedly been raped on a beach while holidaying on a Greek island, police have confirmed.

The 19-year-old came forward to say she had been the victim of a sex attack on isle of Ios between 9pm and 10.30pm on Wednesday, August 16.

Police are hunting for the man responsible and have since launched an investigation.

Ios is a popular tourist destination being one of the 39 Cyclades group which includes Mykonos and Santorini.

The incident took place on a beach in the Mylopotas area, with the teen reporting the incident to authorities shortly after midnight.

The latest incident comes amid a horrifying spate of sexual assault allegations from British women abroad this summer.

Last month, a 21-year-old reported to police that she was raped by a 47-year-old Greek man in Rhodes.

She claimed the older man took her from a “health care store” in Lindos and took her back to a hotel in Pefkos where he allegedly forced her to have sex with him.

That report came a mere 24 hours after an 18-year-old claimed she was attacked in a nightclub in Faliraki.

In June, a 20-year-old woman also came forward to say she was raped in the sea during a holiday in Rhodes after visiting a beach with a 23-year-old Albanian man.

The man was later freed from custody after insisting the sex was consensual but was barred from leaving Greece.

In Athens, a 21-year-old British woman told police that she was raped by an Israeli man earlier this month.

She told the authorities that during the sexual assault, the man’s three friends appeared out of nowhere and filmed her with their mobile phones.
