British girl, 11, shot three times by neighbour through hedge after bitter family row

An 11-year-old British girl killed in France died after being shot three times, reports have indicated.

The youngster, named locally as Solenne Thornton, was killed as she played on a swing in her garden, in the village of Saint Herbot in Brittany yesterday evening, after a neighbour allegedly fired several shots through a hedge as a bitter dispute with her family boiled over.

French media reporte she was hit by three shots.

Her father, Adrien, and mother, Rachel, were also seriously injured with only eight-year-old sister Celeste escaping without injury.

Quimper prosecutor Carine Halley said: “The reasons for this tragedy are not yet known.

“It would appear that a conflict has been opposing the two neighbors for several years over a plot of land adjoining the two properties.”

Ms Halley added: ““After the intervention of the negotiator of the gendarmerie and the GIGN, the defendant and his wife ended up surrendering.

“They were arrested around 11 pm and placed in police custody.”
