Brits have received more disappointing weather news as the Met Office releases new forecast showing rain hitting Britain for the foreseeable future.
Forecasters said there will be a “band of organised rain” set to start on Monday (July 31) and continuing throughout the week and beyond.
The latest weather maps show that north west England will likely see the heaviest rain with up to 16mm falling per hour.
Meanwhile, London and south east England will see lighter showers heading into next week.
This weekend has brought an even gloomier forecast, with thunder and lightning expected in some parts of the UK.
Forecasters explained a weather system drifting over the Atlantic could be the reason behind the miserable weather conditions.
This summer has been bleak so far, with heavy downpours and cooler temperatures hitting the UK.
Scotland and Northern Ireland are expected to experience the worst of it this weekend, with a massive band of rain covering the British Isles.
A Met Office spokesperson said: “The weekend weather will be dominated by an area of low pressure pushing into the north west of the UK on Saturday bringing a risk of heavy rain to Northern Ireland and north west Scotland for the start of the weekend.
“These showers could at times include a risk of hail and thunder and strengthening winds. There is likely to be some rain or showers possible across the far south east of England for a time later in the day.
“On Sunday the showers will again be heavy at times, and slow-moving with a continued risk of thunderstorms, especially for parts of Scotland. Rain or showers also expected to push into South West areas of England through the afternoon.”
Its long range forecast says: “August is likely to start generally unsettled, with showers and outbreaks of rain, these perhaps turning heavy and thundery at times. Changeable conditions are expected to continue through the week with a mixture of sunshine and showers, as well as spells of rain across the UK.
“The wettest conditions are likely to be across the west, while the southeast is likely to see the best of any drier interludes. A similar set up is possible through the following week, with northwestern parts of the UK seeing majority of unsettled conditions. There is a chance for winds to be strong at times, given the time of the year, especially in western areas. Temperatures are likely to remain below average, with chance of mild nights towards later.”
There’s some hope for better weather in the second half of August, however, with the Met Office adding: “There is a increasing possibility towards late August, of a greater incidence of short spells of more settled and warmer weather with lighter winds.”
With temperatures peaking in June, Brits are still hoping for warmer weather and sunshine this summer.
