Brit buys mansion in Bulgaria for £3k on eBay after frustrated with UK housing crisis

A Brit has purchased a mansion in Bulgaria on ebay after growing frustrated with the UK housing crisis.

Rob Davies, 35, from the West Coast of Scotland bought the six-bed dilapidated mansion after spotting it on eBay.

He explained how he was driven to make the gamble after finding himself unable to get on the property ladder in his local area, reported the Mirror.

His story is explained in the latest series of Channel 4’s Help! I Bought A Village, which returns on Monday at 5pm.

Mr Davies said how his decision to purchase the property in Golyamo Krushevo, which is 20 miles north of the Turkish border, was “totally random”.

He said: “I’m always looking for properties on the market, to see if there are any bargains out there.

“I was just doing a random search on eBay, just typing in properties to see what there is.

And that’s how it came about.”

His new mansion in Bulgaria, which is detached and rests on half an acre of land, is said to have been built over 100 years ago but has been lying empty and abandoned since the 1980s.

The property has no fitted bathrooms, kitchen, windows, electricity, or running water.

But Rob insists he isn’t daunted by the challenge, he is simply delighted to be investing in his family’s future.

He said: “It’s a gamble, and I’ve had my highs and I’m having my lows.

“I’m missing my family but I’m also on a high really because I’m achieving stuff.

“I’m fixing the floors, I’m getting to see how they built the house when it was originally built, and I’m having a laugh along the way.”
