Brexit doomsters proved wrong AGAIN as City of London set for 11 new skyscrapers

Despite Brexit doom mongers claiming that London’s status as the financial capital of Europe would be lost as a result of leaving the EU, the city is set to see 11 new skyscrapers pop-up by 2030.

The new buildings have been approved for construction within the next seven years; the demand for office space in the capital appears unencumbered by the transition to remote working, with planning applications up by a quarter on last year.

According to the Office for National Statistics there are now 615,000 people working in the iconic Square Mile, which is 29,000 more than in 2021-22.

Construction Management reports that Greater London Authority estimates show that city job numbers will grow by a further 85,000 by 2040.

The City’s resolute performance comes against a backdrop of years of projections that London was to be usurped by Paris and Frankfurt as Europe’s finance hub after Brexit.

Global consultancy firm Oliver Wyman warned as many as 75,000 jobs may be lost because of Brexit.

Not only did such dire predictions not come to pass, but it appears the capital will be stocked with more city slickers than ever.

Former Conservative MEP David Bannerman took to X, formerly Twitter, to scold the naysaying Remainers who predicted that Brexit would lead to an exodus from the Square Mile.

Mr Bannerman, responding to the news of the new skyscrapers, sarcastically asked: But I thought they were all going to Paris and Frankfurt?!”

The announcement about the new city skyline has come as the City of London Corporation releases images of what the new landscape will look like.

Chair of the Planning and Transportation Committee at the City of London Corporation, Shravan Joshi, said: “These new CGI images clearly illustrate the ever-changing nature of London’s incredible skyline.

“It demonstrates that the City office is here to stay, and that the Square Mile’s real estate sector is robust and thriving, despite wider economic concerns.
