Christmas is a time for seeing loved ones and spending time with relatives and it looks like the world’s most famous family might be overcoming tensions thanks to two of the youngest members.
Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, aged four, and his two-year-old little sister Lilibet, named in honour of her great-grandmother, reportedly recorded a video singing happy birthday to King Charles which was shown to the monarch last week.
The heart-warming rendition of the well-known tune by his grandchildren is understood to have led to a “breakthrough” in relations between King Charles and his son Prince Harry.
Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have drifted apart from the rest of the Royal Family in recent years preferring the sunnier climes of California over frosty encounters in Windsor.
Revelations in the tell-all memoir Spare and a Netflix documentary, as well as another explosive tome called Endgame, have reportedly caused rifts between the couple and Prince William, as well as with King Charles.
However, as the King celebrated turning 75 last week, The Times reports conversations he had with his son and seeing his grandchildren may have signalled a “turning point’ in tense relations.
Geography has meant Archie and Lilibet have spent little time with their grandfather and it is understood this is said to “cause upset for both sides”.
At present the Royal Family are due to celebrate Christmas at their Sandringham estate in Norfolk.
A source speaking to The Times said: “(They) can’t imagine the Sussexes would decline an invitation to spend time with His Majesty.”
But the person added “as of yet, there have not been any invitations for the holidays”.
The Mail on Sunday reported the King does want “to spend more time with his grandchildren”.
A Christmas reunion and burying of hatchets could be seen by many as embracing the true spirit of the season for the Royal Family, but as yet the decision could also hang in the balance due to Prince Harry’s security preferences.
According to the Daily Mail a source close to the Sussexes said they would require “heightened protection” for any visit and they would need an official invite from Buckingham Palace.

The hit series charting a fictitious version of the life of the Windsors has finally come to an end and Bonhams will be auctioning close to 450 props, including replicas of the late Queen’s coronation robes and Diana, Princess of Wales’ leopard print swimsuit and Versace sunglasses, worn in the first instalment of the final season.
