Boy, 6, flying alone put on wrong flight landing four hours away from his family

A six-year-old boy, flying solo for the first time to visit his gran for Christmas, ended up on the wrong plane and landed hundreds of miles from where he was supposed to be.

His shocked grandma, Maria Ramos, said: “They told me, ‘No, he’s not on this flight. He missed his flight.’

I said: ‘No, he could not miss his flight because I have the check-in tag.'”

Instead of flying from Philadelphia to Southwest Florida, little Casper was mistakenly put on a flight to Orlando.

Maria described it as one of the scariest experiences she’s ever had.

Luckily, Casper was safe in Orlando, four hours away, although his bag made it to the correct destination.

Maria was left stunned when her grandson didn’t show up on his intended Spirit Airlines flight.

She also described a conversation she had with a flight attendant.

She said: “I ran inside the plane to the flight attendant and I asked her, ‘Where’s my grandson?

“He was handed over to you at Philadelphia?’ She said, ‘No, I had no kids with me.”

Michael Lopardi from Spirit Airlines gave an official comment. “On Dec. 21, an unaccompanied child travelling from Philadelphia (PHL) to Fort Myers (RSW) was incorrectly boarded on a flight to Orlando (MCO).”

He further expanded: “The child was always under the care and supervision of a Spirit Team Member, and as soon as we discovered the error, we took immediate steps to communicate with the family and reconnect them.

“We take the safety and responsibility of transporting all of our Guests seriously and are conducting an internal investigation.

“We apologise to the family for this experience.”
