Boxing day brawl as bargain-hunters clash on Oxford Street in winter sales shopping surge

The Boxing Day chaos comes despite concerns that high street footfall would be down this year due to rail strikes and the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.

But the day turned out to be highly successful for Central London and other high streets.

According to the industry analyst Springboard, footfall in Central London doubled up at midday and high streets saw a 59.4 percent increase in footfall compared to last Boxing Day.

Before Boxing Day, experts had predicted that the cost of living crisis would cause shoppers to spend 4 percent less this year.
