Boris Becker 'to marry girlfriend 23 years his junior' this year after secret proposal

Boris Becker is reportedly set to marry for the third time following a secret proposal to his girlfriend, who is 23 years younger than him. The 56-year-old has been in a relationship with Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro for a number of years, with the couple moving to Milan following Becker’s release from prison in 2022.

The pair are now engaged, according to Bild, with the wedding expected to take place before the end of this year. Becker was said to have proposed to Monteiro back in 2021, but their original plans to marry were delayed when Becker was sent to prison for insolvency crimes.

He served eight months of a two-and-a-half-year sentence, with Monteiro accompanying him to several court hearings before he was sent down. Following his release from prison in 2022, Becker told Bunte: “Because of her love, I survived. Yes, she is the great love of my life and I hope I always stay with her.”

Monteiro, who reportedly has three degrees and speaks five languages, was born on the African island of Sao Tome and Principe. She built a career as a political risk analyst in London, with her father having served as Sao Tome and Principe defence minister before running for presidency in 2014.

Their wedding will mark Becker’s third marriage, with the former tennis star having broken up with his second wife, Lilly, in 2018. He previously spent eight years married to his first wife, Barbara, with the pair separating in 2001 after Becker admitted to having an affair while she was pregnant with their second child.

Becker is currently looking for a new professional challenge after stepping down as the coach of Holger Rune earlier this month. The pair had initially formed a successful partnership, which saw Rune qualify for last year’s ATP Finals, but their working relationship came to an abrupt end after just four months.

Announcing the news of his departure from Rune’s camp, Becker said: “I would like to inform you that I will step down as the head coach of Holger Rune with immediate effect.

“We started this partnership with the initial goal to reach the ATP Finals end of last year but moving forward I realised that in order for this to be successful, I would need to be available for Holger much more than I can. Due to professional and private responsibilities, I can’t give Holger what he needs now.

“I wish him only the very best and I’m always going to be his number one fan. I truly appreciated this journey together.”
