Bone-chilling moment boy, 13, allegedly confesses to killing his mother with kitchen knife

A 13 year old boy from Hialeah, Florida, has confessed to police that he allegedly killed his own mother by stabbing her in the throat with a large kitchen knife.

Derek Rosa is accused of brutally murdering his 39-year-old mother, Irina Garcia, while his newborn sister was sleeping in the same room.

Despite being charged as an adult and pleading not guilty to murder, a recently released video shows Rosa confessing to the crime during police questioning.

The boy vividly described the knife that he used, which was about a foot long with a purple handle. He confessed on video to cutting his mother’s neck and hitting an artery with the deadly weapon.

Rosa admitted to stabbing her in the neck while she was asleep, using curse words in Spanish. After the act, he grabbed one of his stepdad’s guns intending to kill himself but couldn’t go through with it, he said.

Instead, he called a friend from his online gaming community, confessing his crime and sending pictures of his mother and himself. His friend was in disbelief.

Rosa intended to shoot himself after saying goodbye to his friend, but instead called 911 and asked for police to come as he had killed his mom.

When asked why he stabbed his mother, he excused himself to use the bathroom before answering. Upon returning, he shared that he plays video games like Fortnite and Call of Duty on his XBox, Nintendo Switch and VR headset.

The detective then returned to asking why the Florida teen allegedly killed his mum.

“Do I have to say it now?” Rosa questioned. “Yeah, get it off your chest,” a detective responded.

“Can I wait for a lawyer,” Rosa asked the detectives. The detectives told Rosa that they were not there to guide him about getting a lawyer as ultimately, it was his decision.

“Do you want us to stop the interview,” the detective inquired. “Yes,” said Rosa, before the interview was halted, and the camera turned off.

Rosa could face trial next month.
