Police have recovered the body of a teenage boy from a river in West Yorkshire after getting reports of a ‘male in trouble’ in the water.
Officers from West Yorkshire Police, as well as local ambulance and fire crews, rushed to the scene on the River Calder in Castleford at around 7pm on Wednesday night (May 24). Sadly, at about 8.30pm, they pulled a body from the river, with the local constabulary confirming it was a 16-year-old boy.
There had been reports from the scene of someone in trouble in the water and onlookers were said to have been “screaming” for help. Footage of the search posted online shows several police cars, ambulances and fire engines in attendance at Methley Bridge, while specialist firefighters in water rescue kits can be seen carrying boats onto the river to help in the search.

A police drone was also used as the operation intensified, while concerned onlookers watch the ensuing search.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “Police were called to the River Calder off Leeds Road, Castleford, at 6.58pm this evening to a report of a concern for safety for a male in the water.
“Emergency services attended the scene and shortly before 8.30pm a body was recovered from the water.
“It is understood to be that of a 16-year-old boy. His family are aware and are being supported by officers.
“We would ask that people are considerate of his family at this difficult time.
