Blue badge fury as holder fined for parking in disabled bay while shopping

A woman has been left furious after receiving a fine for parking in a disabled bay despite having a blue badge.

Louise Reilly was slapped with the fine after parking in a disabled bay at the Braehead Shopping Centre in Glasgow before heading to her local M&S to do some shopping for her sister-in-law’s birthday.

Louise was issued the blue badge in 2015 and made sure to display it on her dashboard before going into the shop.

But she said she was left baffled after receiving a letter stating she shoudn’t have parked there on account of not having a blue badge – despite the letter including images of her car with the badge clearly visible.

Louise told Glasgow Live: “I was sent a lovely parking charge notice with a picture of my blue badge visible. You could quite clearly see the badge sitting on the dashboard.

“The fine was sent to me because I had parked in the bay without displaying a disabled badge, which was nonsense, because they sent me a picture of my disabled badge. Popping my badge on the dashboard has become second nature to me.”

Louise immediately filed an appeal online but didn’t receive a reply for weeks, leaving her fearful that Premier Park would send debt collectors after her.

The driver discovered that the fine had been cancelled five weeks after it had been issued. Louise only discovered that she was no longer being chased for the money after checking the website constantly.

The driver said: “I was so angry. They had clearly seen the disabled badge because they took a photo of it and I was clearly within the boundaries.

“It was such a nonsense. I couldn’t get my head round the fact I was told that failed to show my disabled badge even though it was displayed.

“I put in the appeal and heard absolutely nothing. Five weeks later I went back onto download the parking charge notice and was told it had been cancelled.”

Premier Park have been contacted for comment.
