Mr Marcus launched the company with his business partner Arthur Blank which saw them rake in billions. According to the Financial Times, The Home Depot has 2,300 stores across North America, a market capitalisation of $300billion (£248bn) and an annual revenue of over $150billion (£124bn).

In an interview with the Financial Times, the businessman accused Joe Biden of being “the worst president in history” for blocking the path of entrepreneurial success.

In the interview he launched into an anti-woke rant in which he claimed that because of “woke people” no one wants to work anymore.

He noted that if he and Arthur attempted to set up their company now, “we would end up with 15, 16 stores…I don’t know that we could go further”.

The 93-year-old slammed socialism and expressed his concern for capitalism due to his view that people are more than happy to make excuses and accept handouts rather than work.

“Nobody works. Nobody gives a damn. ‘Just give it to me. Send me money. I don’t want to work – I’m too lazy, I’m too fat, I’m too stupid,’” he said.

The billionaire claimed that the United States no longer has free speech due to “woke people”.

Joe Biden is “the worst president in the history of this country…we used to have free speech here”, he said.

He added: “We don’t have it…The woke people have taken over the world.”

He told the Financial Times that he has donated money to Donald Trump and his Republican and Floridian rival Ron DeSantis.

“It is going to be very interesting in ’24 because I think that DeSantis will challenge him. And may the better man win.”

The businessman spoke of his charitable side after vowing to donate a minimum of half of his money to good causes after joining the Gate’s family and Warren Buffett’s Giving Pledge.

Via the Marcus Foundation he has supported the construction of the Georgia Aquarium and has given $2billion (£166bn) to over 500 organisations.
