Beauty therapist attacked boyfriend with snooker cue at pub after discovering affair

A beauty therapist hit her boyfriend in the pub before she tried to launch a violent attack with a snooker cue after being told he was cheating, a court has heard. Lisa Phipps, 36, got upset after another regular at the bar said her partner Scott Moore was having an affair, Warrington Magistrates’ court heard.

A CCTV footage showed the mum-of-two storming across the Cheshire pub before launching a violent attack on Moore.

Phipps punched her then-partner twice and when he hit her back she grabbed a snooker cue.

The beauty therapist admitted to the attack in Warrington magistrates court this week.

Prosecutor Laura Simpson said that Mr Moore punched the beauty therapist back, in the face, before she grabbed a snooker cue to keep fighting him with.

Another customer at the Blue Barrel pub in Northwich snatched the cue from her hands before she hit Moore with it.

The court heard how when the mum was quizzed in the moments after the attack, she told police: “I did punch him because he is my boyfriend. I did punch him in the face, I did, I am not going to deny it.”

While Phipps was quickly arrested after the December attack, Mr Moore refused to speak to police.

The prosecutor further told the court: “There was an argument between the pair regarding Mr Moore cheating on the defendant.

“She walked from one side of the bar to the other and approached the victim and punched him to the head twice.

“It caused a retaliation from Mr Moore and Miss Phipps picked up a snooker cue to use it. However, it was taken from her before she was able to do so.

“The victim is not supportive of the prosecution, so no injuries can be confirmed and there is no victim personal statement.

“The defendant was arrested but prior to doing so did make a significant statement to the arresting officers.

“The assault was aggravated by it being domestic violence related. Significantly, the defendant was intoxicated at the time.”

Her defence lawyer Stuart Flood said while the attack did unfold in a pub, he didn’t think the court understood the full story.

He explained that the mum did not appear intoxicated or drunk in the CCTV, adding: “People had told her in the bar that Scott had been cheating on her.

“She does accept she goes over and she accepts she hits him on the head twice. There were no injuries to him, there was no complaint made by him.

“It is acknowledged by comments to the officers and CCTV, which clearly shows her committing an act of assault against Mr Moore.

“He immediately retaliated by punching her to the face and that is why she picked up that snooker cue simply to defend herself.

“It was taken from her but she had injuries she sustained an injury as a result of the punch.”

Mr Flood told the court that it was “very unfortunate” that Phipps was being charged.

Phipps was convicted of domestic abuse, was fined £115 and ordered to pay £166 in costs and a victim surcharge.

Sentencing Phipps, JP Stephen Walton told her: “In future, contain your anger. This is going on your record. If it happens again, we will involve probation.”
