Beautiful UK waterfall overtaken by ‘wild’ boozy youths performing dangerous stunts

A beautiful waterfall, set in a pretty woodland in the heart of North York Moors National Park has been overtaken by “topless teens” drinking alcohol and being “rowdy”.

The picturesque spot has been compared to the Spanish party island, Ibiza, because of the “wild antics” witnessed by local residents in the area for their daily hikes.

Thomason Foss is located near Goathland and famed for being close to a filming location for ITV’s Heartbeart, which is set in North Yorkshire.

In recent days, youngsters have been spotted partying by the waterfall, hoping to escape the heatwave.

One man was stunned by what he saw while out for what he hoped would be a tranquil walk on June 24.

He told the Daily Star: “This is usually a really tranquil spot, but this weekend it was more like Ibiza. It was totally wild, like a party zone. There were big groups of topless teens chugging booze and being a bit rowdy.”

Teens were reported to have had house music blaring from a boombox, destroying the tranquil environment.

He added: “There was litter everywhere too. I saw bottles of Cactus Jacks and packets of chorizo chicken at the top of the waterfall. It was really upsetting to see the place left like this.”

The spectator also witnessed a dangerous stunt pulled by a young girl at the waterfall.

He exclaimed: “Most worrying of all, a young girl climbed right to the top of the ravine before diving into the waterfall. It must have been about 50ft high. We saw her spin through the air like a corkscrew as her mates screamed. Thankfully she managed to hit the water below, but it was truly death-defying.”

Throughout the course of the day, Thomason Foss waterfall became increasingly crowded.

The hiker added: “As we were leaving, there were more and more people descending. They were dressed for a night out, not for a hike, with strappy tops, diamante sandals and a crate of Bud. It was just laughable.”

In previous years, emergency services have issued warnings and have had to assist in rescue operations.

In 2020, a man was airlifted to hospital with spinal injuries after tombstoning – which is where thrill seekers are jumping or diving from a height into water.

Local emergency services including air ambulance and police were called to assist on scene.

At the time, a spokesperson for the mountain rescue team said: “Thomason Foss, a steep-sided valley, is particularly difficult to extract a casualty from and in light of the suspected injuries we requested the assistance of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency helicopter from Humberside Airport.”
