'Beautiful' schoolgirl, 5, tragically dies after blaze engulfs family home


Police in Wales confirmed that a five-year-old girl tragically died after a fire engulfed her family home in rural Pembrokeshire. Emergency crews rushed to the small village of Pontyglasier, near Crymych, Pembrokeshire, after being called out on Saturday at around 10pm. Despite their best efforts, Alysia Salisbury was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her grieving family paid tribute to their “beautiful daughter and sister” in a statement released by Dyfed Powys Police.

They are currently being supported by specialist officers, as they try to come to terms with their tragic loss.

Dyfed Powys Police confirmed that the blaze prompted a large-scale emergency response.

The operation involved not just fire crews, but also an Urban Search and Rescue Team, as well as the Welsh Air Ambulance.

Emergency Services personnel worked throughout the night to extinguish the deadly fire.

The girl’s death has left many people from her rural community stunned and shocked.

However, they have been quick to rally around and support the grief-stricken family.

County councillor Shon Rees, who was at the scene on Sunday, said: “Our thoughts at present are with the family during this awful and tragic time.”

He said that the locals were “rallying round with clothing and food”.

“This family has lost absolutely everything, including a young child, and we as a community are doing everything we possibly can to support them,” he said.

In a police statement following the fire, Detective Chief Inspector Llyr Williams said: “Our thoughts are with the family and the local community at this tragic time.

“HM Coroner has been informed and officers will now work with colleagues from the fire service to establish the cause of the fire.

“The family request privacy at this difficult time”.

Fire crews from Crymych village and the surrounding towns all took part in the operation to extinguish the blaze.

They were equipped with specialist firefighting gear, such as turntable ladders and water bowsers.

Senior fire officers stayed at the property throughout the day, controlling several hot-spot areas that remained inside the house.
