BBC's Tim Davie says he's had 'very constructive' talks with Lineker after MOTD boycott

After Lineker was cut from MOTD, a BBC spokesman said the organisation had been in “extensive discussions with Gary and his team in recent days”.

It added: “We have said that we consider his recent social media activity to be a breach of our guidelines.”

Ian Wright and a string of other pundits and presenters announced their boycott yesterday. Ian Wright tweeted: “Everybody knows what Match of the Day means to me, but I’ve told the BBC I won’t be doing it tomorrow. Solidarity.”

This was followed by a tweet by Alan Shearer in the late hours of Friday, confirming he had made the same decision.

Pundit and Football Focus presenter Alex Scott tweeted a GIF of Bernie Sanders saying “Nah! Not me” in response to suggestions she might fill Lineker’s role.
